Cracked Teeth
When there is a crack in the enamel, chewing can cause the two segments of the tooth to flex. Over time, the crack may extend into the dental pulp, allowing bacteria to enter and leading to inflammation of the pulp tissue.
Cracked teeth can present with a variety of symptoms, including sensitivity to cold and pain when biting or chewing. These symptoms are often intermittent in the early stages, which can make diagnosis challenging. However, symptoms typically worsen as the condition progresses.
There are several types of cracks that can occur in teeth, and treatment options vary depending on the location and extent of the crack. The presence of a crack often compromises the long-term prognosis. In a majority of cases, a crown is recommended to protect the tooth and prevent further damage.
